After key-in your data yang beratus tu kenkawan pun rasa cam loya loya nak muntah gitu (ini untuk case cam I yang tak mampu nak upah org key -in ye).This is what I diagnosed as "Syndrom Mabuk Data", the next step to think about is how to screen the data. Just want to share apa yang nak buat during this screening process. I think how much to do and how serious you are in dealing with data screening bergantung pada your s/vsor school of thought. Ada org tak le buat banyak benor and ada gak yang tak report in their thesis. But, as usual I am not that "lucky" one. heeeee.....
Outliers: 1) univariate - z score
2) bivariate- scatterplots
3) multivariate- Mahalanobis D
Normality: 1) skewness & kurtosis
2) Kolmogorov-Smirnov
3) examine linearity of graph MahalanobisVs Chi square values

Lunch Date
Last Sunday kitaorang pegi makan makan kat TAKA (one of the Japanese restaurants kat Perth). All together ada 3 family yang pergi. Why Japanese food??? Silap besar le kalau kome semua pikior kami ni mengamalkan dasar pandang ke timur atau peminat fanatik Sin Chan or Ultraman. Decision dibuat berdasarkan ketebalan "poket" masing masing. Eventhough , one family yang pegi tu, tidak le membawa tag "student" kat dahi..tetapi kerana dah terjebak berkawan ngan golongan student...terpaksa le mereka akur ngan tempat nmakan yang dipilih.TAKA ni , kiranya the cheapest food available le. Harga makanan less than $8 per plate. Mana nak cari kat bumi Perth nih?? Lagi satu, ada 2 org mamat ni nak makan "belut" haaaa....kat sini ada jual sup belut. Walaupun teman tidak makan belut tapi demi semangat setiakawan teman ikut juga le mamat mamat 2 org nih...
My personal view, lauk dia sedap (chicken & fish ) , cuma lidah teman ni idak berapa dapat menelan nasi org Jepun yang macam pulut pulut tu... To my suprise, my children semua suka..even Nina pun makan dgn semangatnye.. Jadi idak le terkejut kalau ke depan hari teman bermenantukan org Jepun...heeee...
Lepas makan, sekali lagi demi semangat setia kawan kami mengeringi kwn kami yang berstatus PR tu bershopping kat Myers and David Jones.. Jgn panic, yang menyoppingnya hanyalah kawan kami tu, 2 family yang berstatus student hanyalah mampu untuk tawaf dan gosok gosok baju & pinggan mangkuk kat dalam David Jones tu untuk ambik berkat; walaupun David Jones tengah buat sales giler giler....heeee
Lepas acara tawaf kat tempat tempat glamour nih...perut pun berbunyi le plak. Untuk menyelesaikan masalah kami beramai ramai pakat pakat makan bun aje kat tengah bandar Perth tu.....heeee...

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth..
This posting is specially dedicated to kenkawan yang tengah plan nak ambik spouse program. The objective is not to discourage your effort BUT just to tell the "reality" of life. My writing will only applicable to sesapa with the following criteria:
1) planning to study at WA.
2) As mentioned earlier your hubby/wife pun buat PhD gak.
3) ada anak yang dah masuk high school (sekolah menengah).
4) ada anak yang belum layak untuk register for kindy @ government school (kena stay kat childcare).
Point to remember is when you are accepted in the spouse program , you will only get $400+ permonth. No other allowances (of course your tution fees will be paid by your sponsor). Alhamdulillah...eventhough the amount is small; amatlah membantu eg bole cover your travelling cost ke university..
Cuma , lets talk about reality ..kalau nak datang WA.
1) Cost umah kat WA adalah PALING MAHAL compare to other states in Australia. Current scenario dah berubah. Why? During recession last time , ramai moved to this side of the country(WA ni kan luas and ada industries and also lombong..) jadi you all mesti paham hukum demand & supply kan..
2) Umah plak kat sini very strict- bil bilik kena ikut bil anak..contohnya like myself I got 3 children, so umah paling korok pun must have 3 bedrooms. Harga paling murah is around $350-$400 PERWEEK!.
3) Nak dapat umah ,mesti apply thro estate agents. They really evaluate your financial ability. my experience 2 weeks baru dapat umah, itu pun minta university (international office) keluarkan surat to support our application. Luckily, tuan umah ni Malaysian. Dia simpati ngan kami yang dah 2 weeks blum layak dapat umah. Maaf cakap kat sini, kita punya financial afidavit masih belum meet estate agent punya minimum financial requirement to get a house here!!
4) Now kita citer bab University plak...most of us akan ending up ngan University yang ranking bagus (requirement of the sponsor and good for us too). But on the other side of it, university ni located at the city centre / elite area. Eg kat sini kalau pegi UWA...tak yah mimpi le org yang beranak 3 nak dapat duduk umah near University. So , alternatively you will end up cari umah yang jauh dari uni BUT ada plak travelling cost.
Like my self, I bukan student UWA, but my campus kat tengah bandar Perth. Jadi jgn mimpilah I berkemampuan nak stay kat ngan campus. Nak cari umah jauh sgt dari city pun payah gak coz travelling cost bole tahan beb!
5) Kalau dah dua dua study, anak yang lum layak masuk kindy@ govt school nak kena hantar childcare. Cost childcare AMATlah menyeksakan jiwa dan raga. Here, childcare yang university provide adalah yang PALING MAHAL (sebab they have better facilities and more trained staff- untuk jaga reputation University), jadi alternatively kena hantar kat private childcare (cam nursery kat Msia). Kononnya this is the BEST alternative for you BUT the cheapest is $80 PER DAY. Kat WA, sesapa yang holding student visa tak entitle to any reduction on this fees (Centrelink reduction). Jadi , you need to use you own pocket money to pay .
6) Kalau plak your child dah layak masuk high school (umur 13 thn ke atas le)...haaaa...fees kat highschool pun mencabar minda. We are talking about government school ye (the cheapest school). Yearly you kena bayar $400+ . Kalau you ada 2 org kat highschool...bila buka sekolah ...pensan!!!
Conclusionnya, kalau kenkawan yang ada ciri ciri mcm yang I citer kat atas tu...pikior lebih sikit le untuk datang ke WA. May be bole pikir pikir pegi ke other side of Australia or other country.
Kepada semua yang membaca, semua yang ditulis adalah my own experience..tidak ada niat lain selain dari memberi maklumat secara telus kepada kenkawan yang dalam dilema. The best part, kami (not many here) yang memegang spouse program ni, so far mencuba sedaya upaya untuk menghabiskan PhD dgn jayanya. May be tekanan hidup , membuat kami lebih kuat!! heeeee...

M Nasir Live in Perth...
Dasaaattt...bakat yang Allah bagi kat Sifu nih... SUPERB!!...cuma ada 2 benda yang tak best semalam;
1) venue- penganjur tukar ke LT (jgn tak caya M nasir perform kat LT!)
2) My hubby dapat VIP seat as wakil MyPSA...kuang...kuang..kuang

work...work...work...the never ending story...
The meeting went ok except cam title kat atas tu la ...work and more work and more work for me...my sifu cakap since that paper guna pilot data yang hanya 50 respondents..tak leh lah nak buat analysis yang gedebuk gedabak but at least I need to clearly explain what I have done..2 important things need to improve:
1) strengthen the significance of the study..., so far ok but I need to put more 'ummmmphh' to it!
2) 2 paragraphs need to improve on the "bridging between them"...
But the whole week rasa down...but bila "didigest" balik sebab musabab yang aku rasa down and bengang nih bukannya pasal paper tu...
pasal aku nak mohon pegi one kursus related to my analysis...fees nak kena bayar AUD$ 1780...mahal giler beb!...aku mohon nak guna postgraduate grant tapi tak lulus coz my sifu cakap course tu ambik a big chunk of my grant...sedih lagi tu..that is the only course yang ada kat WA ni....
Alternatively, I found one similar course kat Msia..next month...murah sikit..fees RM 1000. Masalah problemnya plak, kalau balik I need to bring my daughter tu and bila dikira cost flight etc ..rasanya cam lebih kurang je ngan nak kena bayar kat sini...
Jadi, conclusionnya ...since I really need to attend the course and that is the only course yang ada kat WA ni.... I dah booking gak my place..and I need to bayar the fees guna my money yang +- amounted to RM 5340....
That amount may be ciput je lah buat sesetengah org tapi hakikatnya aku bukannya "simply CT"........

That e-mail
I received that e-mail last Friday. Dup dap dup dap jantung bergetar.... dari siapa? My svisor le.. Next meeting will be this Monday. Focus of the meeting is about "my Paper".
Apasal suspen sgt?...emmmm sebab this will be the second meeting after balik dari my data collection. First meeting that day tak le risau bebenor coz dia hanya cakap dia puas hati je coz we (hubby & I) managed to meet his target. This time besides discussing about my paper, I am pretty sure he will ask about my progress in analysing the final data..adoiii..
About that paper..tak confident langsung on the quality of it especially the analysis/results part. Knowing my svsor yang begitu teliti...emmmmm...ngerinya nak dapat feedback.
Next, progress in analysing data. Meh...tengok planner apa yang dah ku buat...
First aku start key-in data on 9th March. Rasanya it took me 6 weeks to complete this process (700+ respondents). In between the process I started playing around with my pilot data to come out with that paper..Now baru terkial kial dok buat data screening.. emmmmmmm....bila ku jeling "time line" kat dinding depan ku ni...lagi rasa nyilu...
Ya Allah mudahkan lah laluan ini....Aminnnnn..

Mother's Day 2010
Alhamdulillah ..I received banyak presents on mother's day this year. The kids gave me cards. The one yang dalam gambar tu was from Nina. I think that was her project at Montessori. The card came with a hand-made bowl full of biscuits. Biscuits tu bentuknya 'herot petot". I guessed
that could be hasil tangan Nina. I baca bismillah and selawat banyak kali gak before makan...heeeee.
Adik brought back from school his present. Pokok yang dia tanam and dia jaga for 2 weeks at school plus that "tweety project". Ucapan adik to me " I planted this for you 2 weeks ago..but now this is yours..so you need to water it"...wakkaka...nampak cam sesi penyerahan tugas le plak...
Liza and Ibrahim gave me a "bread maker" plus cake yang amat cantik and sedap. Nampaknya nak kena buat sessi belajar guna breadmaker ni. Bila nengok cake yang amat cantik and sedap from Liza, rasa semangat nak habiskan PhD cepat cepat.. Nak join class buat kek cam Liza...Bole tak lepas PhD ambik kursus buat cake while waiting for Abang Long to finish his high school here...heeeeee..
Last but not least, my dearest hubby "masak" for lunch. Ini terhangat dipasaran nih...Bila nengok Papa masak, adik cakap " Mama..the Rock is cooking"...heee. Besides that he bought a cheese cake and also the best part... a ticket to M Nasir's concert at Perth Concert Hall this coming 28th May..
